GRAND OPENING SENIORS RESIDENCE
ALDERVILLE FIRST NATION
June 24th, 2010

PRESS RELEASE/COMMUNIQUE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

7 years ago Alderville First Nation began planning for an Elders Residence & Long-Term Care Facility. After completion of the Feasibility studies and Design Phase, financial constraints at all levels of government prevented the realization of a multiple unit residential apartment building with a long term care component for this community.

With the assistance of the Canada Economic Action Plan (CEAP), through Indian & Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), a major portion of the funding for the first phase of this project became a reality for this community located on highway 45N in Northumberland County.

Chief James R. Marsden says “it has always been this community’s desire to have a long term care facility and with the assistance of the CEAP New Construction Program, the first phase has been made possible.” Chief Marsden further added “it is our continued dream to eventually add to the complex and be able to provide long term care where our Elder’s can come home or will never have to leave the community they have known.”

Construction of the modular 6 plex Elders Residence began in earnest in August 2009 and completed in April 2010 with an anticipated occupancy date of August 2010. On June 28, 2010, Alderville First Nation will be hosting a grand opening of their facility with representatives from INAC and MP Rick Norlock attending.
